Oatmeal
There is a common misconception that eating less or skipping meals will help you lose weight. If you are consuming above the recommended amount of kilojoules (this will vary from person to person depending on age and gender) in a day without exerting the excess energy through exercise then yes, cutting back can definitely help but to maintain an effective metabolic rate, eating small meals throughout the day is vital. The first meal of the day can be one of the most important ways to kickstart your metabolism after a good night’s sleep. Oatmeal is a fantastic breakfast to jumpstart your day. It will help regulate your blood sugar levels and give you energy to carry you through to lunchtime.  Opt for plain oatmeal since the flavoured brands can be full of sugar. If you do have a sweet tooth, add some frozen berries and honey. This will add the essential anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant components of your diet.

Blueberries
Research has shown that a diet rich in blueberries may help diminish belly fat. Even if blueberries are frozen, they maintain most of their nutritional benefits. Blueberry and banana smoothies are a great way to start your morning if you don’t have time to make yourself oatmeal. Try this recipe:

  • 1 Banana
  • 1/2 cup Blueberries
  • 1 tbsp of honey

Almonds
Almonds are a good source of monounsaturated fats (MUAF) which are known to help burn belly fat. They contain vegetable protein and fibre which will also help you suppress your cravings throughout the day. Try adding some to that smoothie or oatmeal. Be aware of how many almonds you consume though as even though they are high in good fats, they can still aid in weight gain if over consumed. The recommended amount to lose weight is 8 almonds a day.

Salmon

Lean meats such as salmon, skinless chicken and turkey have been proven to burn calories after digestion if cooked the right way.
