Don’t miss out on the festivities this season with these low-calorie, low-sugar alcoholic drinks!

Hi StrongBody warriors, we know it’s the festive season and most of us are in social event overload. Your hard work training all year long has paid off and you’re not about to throw it all away in one month of fun.  There is much to celebrate coming to the end of the year and we are here to let you know that you can raise your glass and drink it too. Say goodbye to the boring vodka-sodas because here are our top three drink mixes to spice up your palettes this December, without the guilt. Mix all ingredients together for a single serve:

Sugar-free Mojito

Take out the sugar syrup in a mojito and you’ve got yourself a low-calorie cocktail.

  1. Small bunch fresh mint leaves
  2. Juice of 1/2 fresh lime
  3. A shot of your choice of rum
  4. 1 cup soda water, or enough to top up
  5. Ice cubes
  6. Lime wedge and fresh mint to garnish

Smash the fresh mint and lime juice at the bottom of the glass before topping up with the rest of the ingredients. If you’re out, no problem, you will be surprised as to how many people ask for a “Mojito with no sugar”.

Gin Refresher

  1. Juice of 1/2 fresh lime
  2. A shot of gin
  3. 1 cup sparkling water, or enough to top up
  4. Ice cubes
  5. Fresh cucumber

Cut the cucumber into batons and serve directly in the glass. If you’re out and about just ask for a soda-water and tonic with some lime.

Spicy Margarita

  1. 2 cups ice
  2. Juice of 1/2 fresh lime
  3. 1/3 cup of fresh grapefruit juice
  4. A shot of silver tequila
  5. Pinch sea salt
  6. Pinch chilli powder
  7. 2 slices jalapeno
  8. 1 slice lime to garnish

Remember, alcohol is still a toxin and even though you are cutting the calories and sugar with these drinks, it doesn’t mean your body won’t be affected in other ways. It is important to know that when you consume alcohol, your body will not be able to metabolise any other macronutrient until the alcohol is out of your system. Alcohol will also affect your sleep pattern and not allow your body to go into REM (Rapid eye movement) which is your deepest stage of sleep. So, ensure you are catching up on that missed sleep.

Happy holidays StrongBody Warriors.

Until next time,
