Barre is here!
That’s right StrongBody warriors, we know you have heard the whispers, but what can you expect from the new virtual Barre class on your StrongBody App?
Firstly, what exactly is Barre?
Don’t worry, you’re not the only one who doesn’t quite know the ins and outs of Barre. This class, designed by the founding instructor at Barry’s Australia, Molly Gay, is going to target major muscle groups in your body. Barre is inspired by Ballet but also incorporates pilates and yoga for a low-impact full-body workout. Barre is all about those small movements to target specific areas in your body, giving a whole new meaning to ‘feeling the burn’. You can expect it to be all about high intensity with minimal pressure on your joints which is a hard balance to find in workout regimes these days. Be prepared to improve your posture through core strengthening which will also aid to your balance and stability.
Five reasons you should give Barre a go:
1. No equipment necessary, do it anywhere at anytime
That’s right, with your Barre Class on your phone you can do it anywhere at any time. In your hotel room if you’re travelling, after your morning run or even in a studio at your local gym!
2. Get a body like a dancer without having to dance
You’re not the only one that envies the strong, lean and defined bodies of the supple and elegant swans fluttering across the stage in the rendition of Swan Lake by the Australian Ballet Company. Here’s a secret – you don’t have to put your feet through Ballet shoe torture to get that lean elongated body. Give Barre a try and you will be pleasantly surprised by the results.
3. Posture, Posture, Posture!
Good posture is so important for our wellbeing. From self-confidence to full-body alignment, most people don’t realise the benefits a good posture has on your whole body. Barre is fantastic for core and lower back strength which is directly linked to your posture!
4. Not a fitness expert, Barre has your back!
The beauty of Barre is that you can be at any fitness level to do the class. The reason for this is that you are working with your own bodyweight to build strength. There are no extra weights needed! You can go at your own pace and push yourself as hard as you like or take it easy – the workout will still be beneficial to your progress. Targeting the smaller muscle groups throughout your body means results fast no matter what speed you’re going at!
5. It’s great for your mental health
We all know that yoga has been dubbed the exercise of meditation, but technically any exercise that connects your mental awareness to your body could be considered a form of meditation. Your body is your instrument of strength in Barre. Going through all the muscle groups in your body and becoming aware of them to ensure you are performing the movement correctly can leave you feeling mentally stimulated and calm after the workout. Don’t forget an added bonus of any workout is those endorphins, another reason Barre will be great for your mental health!
